Pre-School

FFGA’s Preschool program is age-based.  This allows children to be in age and developmentally appropriate classes.  We use rhythm and rhyme to enhance your child’s experience in learning basic gymnastics skills. 

Skills are learned through creative movement, a wide range of movement patterns, and exploration.  Repetition of these basic movements throughout the program allows for the maximum learning potential for each child.  Please see our various pre-school classes below.

Toddler Tumblers:  Ages 18 months-3 years old

Parent/helper and child class in which basic movement and gymnastics concepts are introduced to children who are in the beginning stages of walking to age 3.  This is an interactive class for the child and adult to be learning together. 

Skills learned at this age:

  • Safety First Skills: Bend Our Knees Safety Freeze, Humpty Dumpty Safety Roll, Chop Chop Safety Fall

  • High Low Forward Roll We Go

  • Hee Haw

  • Hands Down Jump Around Cartwheel

  • Trampoline jumping

  • Hanging and grip strength using a bar

  • Balancing on the balance beam

Requirements: One active helper per child is required

Mighty Tumblers:  Ages 3-4

Children participate in class independently.  We focus on basic preschool concepts such as: listening to directions, using creativity, taking turns, and sharing.  We also work on basic movement concepts (space awareness and effort), basic gymnastics skills, and Kindergarten-readiness skills. 

Skills learned at this age:

  • Safety First Skills: Bend Our Knees Safety Freeze, Humpty Dumpty

  • Safety Roll, Chop Chop Safety Fall

  • High Low Forward Roll We Go

  • Lucky Lunge and Teeter Totter Kick

  • Hands Down Step Step Around Cartwheel

  • Jumps using our Shapes on the trampoline

  • Front Support 

Kinder Tumblers:  Ages 5-6

Children participate in class independently.  We focus on basic preschool concepts such as: listening to directions, using creativity, taking turns, and sharing.  We also work on basic movement concepts (space awareness and effort), basic gymnastics skills, and Kindergarten-readiness skills.

 

Skills learned at this age:

  • Safety First Skills: Freeze and Stick Position, Safety Roll, Safety Fall

  • Backward Roll Down the Incline

  • Teeter Totter Kick Handstand

  • Hand Hand Foot Foot Cartwheel

  • Tip and Flip on Bars

Rockin’ Tumblers: Ages 4+

This is a transitional class for students working to increase strength, flexibility, and the technical aspect of gymnastics in an age-appropriate environment.

Skills learned at this age:

  • Forward and Backward Roll on the Floor

  • Handstand

  • Cartwheel

  • Pullovers

  • Stalders

By Recommendation Only 

Requirements for Rockin Tumblers

  • Ages 4-6 (You may have the very rare 3 year old that meets these requirements, but they must be emotionally able to handle a more advanced class)

  • The goal is to transition these students into Xcel, where they are able to meet and exceed the necessary requirements at the next level

  • Demonstrate good listening skills, ability to follow directions/circuits, and a good supportive classmate

  • Demonstrate resilience (doesn’t give up too easily) and the desire to be at gymnastics for a longer period of time

  • They must have the concept/or complete the following skills (they don’t need to be perfect, but must know what they are and how to complete them)

  • The student’s name

  • The class they are in:                                                                                    Mighty Tumblers: formerly Tiny Tumblers, Kinder Tumblers, etc.

  • The day of week their class is

  • The time of the class

Please reach out to Amanda, Satera, or any of the Xcel coaches if you have questions regarding the evaluation process or to have someone come watch the child during class
